Job Overview: Under the supervision of staff from the research office, exhibitions assistant greets the public, helps to maintain the appearance of the gallery, inspects art objects, creates and installs signage and labels, assists visiting artists, and keeps the galleries and storage areas organized. Assistant also installs and dismantles exhibitions, packs work for shipping, assists with publicity efforts, performs administrative tasks, maintains gallery supply inventory and performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements: All applicants must communicate effectively and enjoy interacting with the public. Exhibitions Assistant must be punctual and professional in both dress and manner. Assistants are expected to be knowledgeable about the exhibitions, programming, gallery hours, and special events. Preferred Experience: Assistant must have basic proficiency with small hand tools (or be willing to learn), be organized, dependable, flexible, and have great attention to detail. College coursework in or experience and knowledge of contemporary art is highly preferred. Must be recipient of Penn State Work-Study. Schedule: Ten hours per week between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; Monday thru Friday. Occasional weekend and evening hours are required. Evening events generally take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Rate is approximately $9.50/hour.
