Penn State Learning is seeking qualified undergraduates interested in providing tutoring for small groups of students taking online introductory undergraduate statistics courses. Tutoring sessions will take place during evenings and weekends to support course learning goals. The tutor will supplement course instruction by explaining content, by assisting students with the use of statistical software, and by suggesting appropriate study strategies and techniques. The tutor will coordinate with the course coordinator and other online support staff. The candidate should have effective communication and interpersonal skills and a personality that is able to relate to returning adult online students with flexibility and patience. The candidate must be able to communicate in a supportive manner, be respectful of differences in culture and learning styles, and help students with subject content according to their strengths. The candidate must also be fluent in reading, speaking and writing English. The candidate will be involved in team meetings and must effectively communicate with the course coordinator regarding student issues and performance. The candidate must have good computer skills, including the ability to use the internet and email with ease and be able to quickly learn and utilize a range of digital communication technologies. In addition, the candidate must be familiar with basic use of statistical software applications such as Minitab and Minitab Express. Successful completion of STAT 200 within the past two years with an A- or better (or equivalent) is required.
