Description

A Master’s level student or individual with some clinical training is being sought for six months to assist with a research project called “Teen Building” conducted by a faculty member at Penn State University. The position requires working with investigators, behavioral health treatment providers and the Penn State PACT team (Parents and Children Together) in Harrisburg PA. Duties primarily include recruitment of parents and their teenagers, scheduling and testing the teens using computerized tasks, and administering a few surveys to both the parents and teens. Computer and statistical skills are helpful, although not required. Applicants with a background in relevant aspects of psychology preferred. Candidates should be responsible, organized, and able to take the initiative, as well as having good communication skills and being comfortable working with disadvantaged families. Our Teen Building project focuses on adolescents who have been in trouble with the law and have been referred by the courts to a well-regarded program called Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST). The MST program is designed to work with the teenager and their family and school to help them develop effective social competency and self-regulatory skills. The goal of MST is to reduce aggression, drug use, and other risky behaviors, and in effect, divert them from further involvement with the juvenile justice system. Our project will explore what characteristics of the teenager make the MST program more likely to achieve this goal so it can be appropriately targeted. The salary is $18/hour. In addition to submitting materials online, please e-mail your resume and 2 letters of recommendation to Diana Fishbein, Ph.D. at dfishbein@psu.edu.
