Description

Working under the general supervision of the Archivist for Digital Content and Strategies, and alongside Special Collections staff, the Scholarly Product Assistant will provide support for the use of SCL collections in new digital formats, especially related to audio recordings and archived websites. The Scholarly Product Assistant will primarily work with Scholarly Product staff to generate and quality-control transcripts of notable audio oral history recordings, and ensure the completeness of web archiving projects through quality control workflows and by generating descriptive metadata. Specific job duties will include: Providing assistance to researchers through regularly scheduled Special Collections Reading Room desk shifts. Use an online tool to generate, review, and edit for quality transcripts for oral history collections. Export and organize oral history transcript files for use by SCL staff and patrons. Navigate archived websites through the Internet Archive and document missing content. Research and review archived websites and add website metadata using Internet Archive tools. Support of other projects as assigned. Required: Exceptional organizational ability. Attention to detail. Strong communication skills, especially written communication. Comfort with using computer technology, especially using browser-based tools. Comfort managing digital files. Strong commitment to diversity, equity, respect and inclusion. Desired, but not necessary: Experience working in a library or other similar setting. Familiarity with special collections material (archives, manuscripts, rare books, etc.). Non-English language(s) proficiency. 10-20 hours/week-schedule will be determined by mutual agreement with supervisor.
